Forum: GratefulDead Subject: The War Is Over?

I wish Skobud's post would bump itself up over mine (hint). His is much cooler and I am listening to, Soul Brothers Soul Meeting, forthwith. However, a milestone may have been reached today. I hope some of the last 4K soldiers to leave are home for Christmas. Headlines from around the world, and a slideshow at the end.

Eh...thought it was gonna be funnier. Nevermind.

There ya go; sorry about that...sometimes humor is out of place.

No, sometimes you're out of place, but we've learned to live with it.

I did once, but after four hours I had to go to the emergency room.

I got a million of 'em.

I only have one of 'em.

Not sure what Mrs. Mando would do with a million of 'em, but it would probably be a lot of fun.

You, SDH, Mando, rasta, anyone a forgot (sorry), can do anything you please here.
I'm on the edge of weepy when I think of the 40K+ KIA or wounded, and the spider web or relationships affected. I don't know what else to say. It's beyond my words.

Yet the war in Afghanistan, and the unconstitutional wars in Pakistan and Yemen continue.

But hey, at least we won the "non hostile" action in Libya.

As all empires in decay are wont to do, we will engage in another resource war soon enough. Of course, we'll call it spreading Democracy or some such nonsense. That is code word for "Give us your oil, bitches."

I agree with you on what this war was about. A great geo-political throw of the dice, born out the the failure of the political class that we accept. If we were seriously pursuing since the OPEC oil crisis a self sufficient, national energy goal would we give three figs about S.A., Iraq or Afghanistan? Maybe, but not as if our way of life depended on those 'figs' as it does now.

I can not say that the men and women who gave their lives, limbs or soundness of mind did so in vain. Am I hopelessly naive? Is it all unit pride and professionalism?

Hopelessly naive? Not hopelessly. Perhaps a bit naive though.

The sacrifices made by the men and women of our armed forces likely wasn't in vain - if you consider the real reason was to secure access to a dwindling resource the US is addicted to in order to continue to fuel our fatally flawed economic growth models that are so dependent on consumption of excess energy. Or stated bluntly - continue our way of life with 3% of the world's population (the US) consuming 25% of the world's daily oil production.

How come you don't hear the Occupy This and That knuckleheads bitching up a storm over that imbalance? Oh, wait - they really just want more shit for free on the back of someone else's labor.

Fuckers.....

Yay for the home team........

Hey, I for one like this post. Having my son get through 2 tours unscathed is something I will be forever grateful for. Sure, I may engage is off-topic bullshit a little too much, but I certainly mean no disrespect to quality contributors such as yourself.
